Maya Shopova
Visiting Scholar
Maya Shopova is an architect and the co-founder of the multidisciplinary studio Afield Practice with Pauline Shongov. She holds a BSc in Architecture from McGill University and an MArch from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Her research interests in critical heritage studies and alternative preservation practice meet at the intersection of architecture, landscape, and film. Her work has been supported by Harvard Mellon Urban Initiative, Artlab at Harvard, and the Council for the Arts at MIT. Maya has over a decade of experience in practice, working at architecture offices such as Diller Scofidio+Renfro and Bjarke Ingels Group in New York, as well as art practices such as Rosa Barba Studio in Berlin. At DS+R, she has worked on multiple projects including the Broad Museum Expansion in Los Angeles, Parco Romana in Milan, and the MIT Metropolitan Warehouse. She has previously taught design studios at McGill University and at MIT.
