M.Arch 1 Course Exemption Form

M.Arch 1 students may receive course exemptions for university-level courses that they have previously completed under the following conditions and at the discretion of the Associate Director, Graduate: 

• 1) Based on their previous courses, any student may be eligible to receive course exemptions for the following three courses: ARCH 5221 Ecological & Regulatory Systems, ARCH 5222 Structures, and ARCH 5223 Assemblies and Environmental Systems. Students who previously completed the following Carleton University courses are also specifically eligible for exemption for the stated equivalent courses: ARCC 2202 (ARCH 5221), CIVE 2005 (ARCH 5222), and both ARCC 2203 and ARCC 3202 (ARCH 5223). Note that students must have received a B- or above in these courses.  
• 2) Students who have previously completed Carleton University’s ARCH 2300 Introduction to Modern Architecture are eligible for exemption from ARCH 5331 Modernism and Global Urbanism. Note that students must have received a B- or above in the course. Students from other academic institutions who have completed a minimum of three history/theory architecture courses may be eligible for exemption from ARCH 5331, following a review of relevant syllabi and transcripts. 
• 3) Courses from Carleton University or another institution being used to apply for exemption must have received a B- or above.  
• 4) If students gain exemption for more than one course in a semester, they must enrol in a 0.5 credit free elective in lieu of the other course. 
• 5) Note that we do not grant course exemptions for CEGEP courses. 
• 7) You must enroll in and attend all courses for which an exemption is requested until the exemption is granted.
