Frequently Asked Questions

All classes will be online in winter 2021, with the possible exception of one elective seminar.

This is not likely. However, there may be opportunities to send files to be cut in the Laserlab.
We will have more information on this in late November. Until then, checkout the new Fab Lab Website.

Thus far, this has been possible.
Please write to Associate Director Johan Voordouw, and he will forward your request to the Dean’s office.

There will not be any travel in February.

Here are some tips from our IT administrator Mike Getz
If you are still having difficulties, we will try to work with you to find a solution.

There is no doubt that staying connected with your classmates is a bit more of a challenge this year – but the student body has all worked and pulled together and create a few different virtual ways to stay connected with your peers!

There are a few different resources you can look into or participate in –

Firstly, we recommend you follow the Azrieli Architecture Student Association, @aasa_cu on Instagram, @CarletonAASA on Facebook. AASA is working this year to keep students in the loop together with Town Halls, the occasional social event, and answering any questions or concerns you may have. You will also be able to see followers of the accounts – many of which are your own peers that you will then be able to get in touch with.

Other Instagram accounts to follow that can connect you with architecture peers, student groups, and virtual social events are @dwg.asau @carleton_architecture @kosmic.glitch @arch_lobby_ottawa

Other Facebook accounts for further connections – @azrielischoolofarchitectureurbanism

The Carleton School of Architecture and Urbanism Facebook Group (it is private, but just send a request to join and you will have access!)

Instagram and Facebook group chats are the easiest way to start a conversation with your peers – likely one has already been created for your year, stream, studio class, or a combination of all these categories! If one hasn’t been made, simply start your own with a few friends and allow everyone to invite additional members. Soon enough it will be full of your peers chatting about when the next assignment is due!

There are also 2 different Discord servers you are welcome to join –

For 1st Year Students – contact Johnson Luu (@Legitnamehi on Instagram, Senate#9237 on Discord)

For all Azrieli Architecture students – you can join our discord with this link https://discord.gg/mQyMyeF

Finally, just start sending some messages, even over zoom! Don’t be shy to give them a compliment or invite them to a group chat. We are here for each other during this time, even if it is just messaging, having a non-professional, non-zoom outlet for chatting makes an impact!
