Wildfires in Canada are common occurrences, but as climate change drives rising fire activity and intensity, remote wildland-urban interface, or WUI, sites are increasingly under threat. This exhibition features ongoing research of a single megafire and its impacts on one WUI community: 2023 Québec wildfire 344 that prompted evacuation twice of Lebel-sur-Quévillon. This methodological pilot project uses photography, video, maps and physical models to visualize dynamic wildfire behaviour and to document the traces that one mega-fire left behind. The work highlights the variables that drive volatile dynamic fire spread while revealing the wide range of spatial and material conditions and scales of impact that fall within the WUI purview.
