Santiago Guardia

Javier Santiago Guardia Miranda’s life path led him from his beloved country of Bolivia to pursue new opportunities in Canada. He fully understands the meaning of hope and the journey that is required to achieve the objective, he has applied the same principle to his professional work.

His early work includes social housing and urban planning for rural emerging communities teaming up with government agencies and NGOs. Santiago’s lead a wide range of public and private projects including LEED certified buildings and various architectural competitions while holding professional licenses in both, Bolivian and Canadian, jurisdictions. He is a Senior Associate at a local firm combining the private practice endeavors with his passion for teaching in the academic field.

Santiago is an international professor, motivated by the process of design-thinking and the quest for spatial translation. He has taught studio for several years at the Department of Architecture – Bolivian Catholic University. Since 2017, he has been a seasonal teacher at the Azrieli School of Architecture at Carleton University.

He holds a B.Arch. in Architecture degree, a 6-year program from the Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism and Arts at the Mayor de San Andres University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Software in Architecture from the University of Aquino in Bolivia.

Santiago is member of the UIA – Union International of Architects, APA – Pan-American Association of Architects, CAB – Bolivian Architects Association, OAA – Ontario Architects Association and the RAIC. He is also a LEED accredited professional.
