Nicolas Arellano Risopatron

Contract Instructor

Nicolas Arellano Risopatron is a Ph.D. Candidate at Carleton University focusing on the intersections between architecture and coding through open-source software. He holds a bachelor’s in architecture from Pontificia Universidad Catolica of Chile (PUC) specialized in “Systems and Technologies” and is certified in “Developing BIM Projects”. He is a research team lead at the Carleton Immersive Media Studio (CIMS) where he has participated in the Canadian Parliament rehabilitation project and has led the Carleton Digital Campus and the Digital Twin prototype projects. For 5 years he taught BIM Fundamentals at Algonquin College. Nicolas is the director of research of the Digital Built National Capital Region (dbNCR), a group dedicated to build and facilitate connections among AECO professionals. He worked at NORR Limited where he learned how to write scripts that allowed him to automate several solutions to repetitive production problems using algorithms and visual programming tools. At PUC he worked as an Adjunct Instructor of “Building Techniques and Construction” and as a researcher at the Centro UC de Innovacion en Madera, which studies the benefits of timber construction.
