PhD student’s work in exhibition of Turkish artists in Canada
October 27, 2023
PhD student Serkan Taycan was among seven artists whose work was displayed in an exhibition featuring work by Turkish artists living in Canada.
The show, organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey, was one of several events marking the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Republic and the 80th year of relations with Canada.

Taycan showed a series of four colour photographs he took in the winter of 2009 in Turkey. The prints are 22 x 22 inches.
“During that time, novel and exciting cultural and political developments were taking place in my country and the surrounding region, he recalls.
“Driven by a desire to explore my homeland more profoundly, I embarked on solitary journeys to the far-flung corners of the countryside, where I captured these landscapes in the eastern part of Anatolia,” says Taycan.
“Looking back now, I could not have imagined that years later, I would be sharing these white landscapes in this snow-famous capital.”
The show, “Turkish Roots, Canadian Branches: A Celebration of 100 Years of the Turkish Republic and 80 Years of Canada-Turkey Relations,” was on display at Club SAW from October 24 to 26.
