Project Description

Floating lightly above the waters of Gilmour Lake, just north of the quaint town of Val-des-Monts in the upper Gatineaus, Star Trails offers a unique star gazing experience in this mountain fed lake. Low in design, the unfolding surfaces allow for unobstructed views of the night sky; evoking feelings of lightness and serenity.
Star Trails takes inspiration from the Perseids meteor shower, the most visible recurring celestial event of the summer, to create a dialogue between the sky and the water. Along with its seasonal use, the reflection of the site through a local material palette sets this project lightly in the water, as to not disturb the ecosystems. Star Trails aims to create a visual and physical connection with its surrounding natural environment, while offering an impermanent yet enchanting open space for the community.
