Sharmeen Dafedar is a Contract Instructor and PhD student at Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism. She was an Assistant Professor in the B.Arch program at University of Mumbai from 2020-2022 and as was a Visiting Lecturer from 2014-2017. Her research studies look into the cultural building-craft practices and their interactions and engagement with architecture as experienced in the city of Srinagar in Kashmir. Her research interests in architecture involve studying the relationships between the urban fabric of cities and the traditional cultural productions brought about by its people in the present day. She is a registered Architect in India
and has practiced as an Architectural Designer in New York and as an architect in Mumbai. She holds a Bachelor in Architecture degree from University of Mumbai (2014) and she also
completed a postgraduate course in Indian Aesthetics at Jnanapravaha Institute Mumbai. She graduated from the Masters of Science in Architecture Studies (SMArchS) Program from MIT in History, Theory, Criticism at the Aga Khan Program in Islamic architecture in 2019. Sharmeen indulges her creative side as an artist in intricate drawings and illustrations of heritage buildings as well as in culinary arts and Indian street-food history. She has been passionate about Architecture represented in works of Sci-Fi stories and other works of Fiction and has taught courses on the same in Mumbai.
