Associate Professor Stephen Fai and his team at the Carleton Immersive Media Studio (CIMS) are developing a first-of-a-kind mapping tool to help attract investors to Eastern Ontario.

They are digitally mapping and recreating businesses in small towns — from Ottawa to Toronto, along the St. Lawrence River and northwest to the border of Quebec near Algonquin Park. The first phase, currently underway, is collecting data on the agri-food industry. The next steps will look at cultural heritage and manufacturing across the 45,000-square-kilometre region.

The Ontario East Economic Development Commission contacted CIMS about creating the tool, which would show investors the capacity and resources available.
