SUMMARY:The Writing on the Wall: A Mosque, Church & Synagogue in Andalusia
DESCRIPTION:Adjunct Professor H. Masud Taj will give a slide-talk in an event that is part of Islamic History Month Canada celebrations.

The interdisciplinary talk deals with text as it occurs in books as well as in buildings. The book is Don Quixote; the buildings: a mosque, church, and synagogue. Both, book and buildings, converge in medieval Toledo. Reading the book and the inscriptions on the buildings render both problematic; the context of the novel excavates new meaning from the text while the text on the walls raises new questions about the context.
