Project Description
This project is an adaptive reuse project with an emphasis on conservation. Southminster United Church previously stood on the Northern corner of Aylmer avenue and Galt St. Due to dwindling church attendance, we were instructed to choose and design a program that would better fulfill the needs of the community; bringing upon Southminster Culinary School. This project is an attempt at connecting all audiences of the Old Ottawa South neighbourhood through the process of buying, growing, cooking, and enjoying food. To create a more closed-loop cycle to promote local and sustainable economies, the culinary school is supplemented with a general store and a covered open-air for farmer’s markets. The chapel of the church is what remains of the old Southminster Church and this main space hosts a restaurant, acting as the heart of the development.
