Project Description
As a person passes through this “doorway”, which is a typical daily movement, a person doesn’t normally pay any attention to. Like a dream catcher, the string captures the essence of that person, at that moment, frozen in transition. Keeping to the primary colours and some basic forms, one is able to break down who you are to the most abstract foundation or core. Doorways can represent leaving something behind, entering something new, or even just passing through the purgatory that is everyday life, capturing a moment of transition through life. Taking inspiration from Vitruvius in using the body as a measurement, each part on the piece where string gathers at a “joint” or where a shape ends represents a part of the body that is conducive to movement. Feet, knees, hips, shoulders, head, and the tips of your fingers. In hindsight, it was a reminder of the children’s movie Inside Out, when they enter the abstract thought chamber.
