Project Description

The Canadian Vertical Forestry Institute confines and extends itself laterally and vertically to further ecological research and lumber production.

Six storeys of the vertical greenhouse are lifted and framed in steel and glass, aligning itself with the mass timber building supporting the institute’s private lab and public programming. From the park level, a rising circulation ramp snakes between the greenhouses and labs, equalizing experiences up and down the building.

Through its siting, planning and construction detailing, the institute roots itself down and lifts itself up, in order to liberate space for a new urban forest along the Kitchisippi River.
